Week 3 Wrap Up

The end of week 3 is here already.  I always thought my parents and grandparents were kidding when they said they as you grow older the days, weeks and years go faster and faster.  They were actually spot on!

Week 3 has been an interesting week.  Monday was a public holiday, but I still went out as soon as I woke up and did my workout.  The intensity lifted this week both in the set workout and also due to my decision to move to the intermediate fitness level.  Not sure if it was the right decision for lazy me, but it certainly had me sweating.  And my nemesis turned up on the workout – burpees!  Everything else I can deal with, but that exercise nearly kills me everytime.  And it was on there 2 days in a row  – not nice Michelle!

We spent the rest of Monday doing gardening.  I mowed the massive yard and moved piles of clipped hedge towards the trashpack – now just need the trashpack people to turn up & remove it so I can fill it again.  I was hoping I would have burned enough calories to rid me of any extra weight from the trip to Sydney.

Tuesday I made a decision – to have a go at Zumba.  Have booked in and am having the first free class this week.  So excited and even dragging some friends along with me.

The rest of the week stumbled on, and I struggled to deal with the change to time – that 5.30 jog last week was so much more pleasant than the one in pitch black I did on Wednesday.

On Saturday I made a concious decision that exercise was now a part of my life and I needed to actually spend some cash on it.  So after a walk up Mt Taylor with my Mum, which was hard up & easy down, I went shopping.  I love shopping for myself and on my own.  I purchase some new workout clothes that I am now looking forward to wearing as I sweat, especially when it is with other people.  I also finally opened the Michelle Bridges Super Shredder Circuit DVD that I bought over a month ago.  That was a tough workout, but left me with the most amazing feeling.

Hoping to squeeze a walk in this afternoon to finish week 3 off – maybe even convince a little person that they want to come too.

Weight loss this week was 1kg on Wednesday, so total now of 2.9kg.  Not expecting great things this week as I am now at a weight where I generally plateau.  But will keep pushing on.

Week 4 is going to be exciting – some summer sports are starting, start Zumba and the school juggle begins again for the last term.  Lost of organising to be done.

There has also been a lot of discussion about consistency this week, so that is going to be mantra from now on as times get tough!!

A little bit of daylight

There have been many many letters in our local paper this week about the commencement of daylight savings.  For the last few years daylight savings has run from the first weekend in October through to the first weekend in April – 6 long months!  Quite a number of people are complaining about having daylight savings at all.

I like daylight savings in Summer.  I enjoy the long days and having lovely sunny evenings to get things done and to enjoy time with the boys and friends.  What I don’t like is daylight savings in early Spring and Autumn.  This may work well if you live on the coast, but in the Nations Capital it is just too early.

I have really been enjoying the mornings.  Waking up early to exercise, seeing the sun finish rising over the mountains behind my house and hearing the birds waking up.  But this week…….

Tuesday was tough – it was just daybreak when I took off for my warmup walk.  This morning was nearly impossible – 5.30am and it was pitch black.  Yep, the birds were starting to wake up, but I couldn’t see the magpies eyeing me off to swoop.  It was difficult to be motivated to get out of bed in the dark, after the lovely mornings from last week.  And it was still dark when I arrived home.  I really didn’t get the same enjoyment this morning as I did last week.

Daylight savings at this time of year is great for those people who do things in the evenings, and an evening walk is a beautiful way to end the day.  But for those of us who are morning people – it is just tough going.    I feel like I am being penalised by a government decision to align us with Tasmania – why couldn’t they change to align with us???

I know in a few weeks it will be fine again – but why couldn’t daylight savings start then????
